State of Geospatial Careers
Help map the tools, skills, salaries, and questions shaping geospatial work
Tell us about your work: the tools you use, the skills you have and want, and, if you choose, your pay. Read what happens to your answers before you start.
Before you start: what happens to your answers
- Who holds this data
- Gerardo Ezequiel Martin Carreno, based in London, United Kingdom. He holds it and is responsible for it personally. If responsibility for it moves to a company, this notice changes first and you will be able to read the new version here.
- What this form collects
- how you describe your current role, your country and your career stage
- the tools, libraries, data sources and reports you use, and the skills you have or want
- what you are working towards, what is missing or confusing, and your feedback
- your pay, seniority, city, employer type and years of experience, but only if you tick "include salary"
- your email address, but only if you tick the follow-up box
That is the whole list. We do not ask for your name, your employer’s name, any special-category data.
This form stores a one-way hash of your IP address and your browser user agent, to detect duplicate and automated submissions. The hash cannot be turned back into your IP address.
If you tick "include salary", your pay figures are also written to a separate salary table used for the published benchmarks. The same floor applies: no figure is published for a group of fewer than 5 people.
This form does not give you a deletion code, so we cannot match an anonymous submission back to you on request. Email us with roughly when you submitted, your country and your role, and we will find it and erase it. If you gave an email address, that is enough on its own.
- Please do not type anything identifying
- Several boxes are free text. Leave out your name, your employer and anything that would identify you or a colleague. We cannot un-see it once it is submitted, though we can delete it.
- Why we are allowed to hold it
- Your consent, given by ticking the consent box on this form. That is the lawful basis under UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a). Consent is a real choice here: nothing else on the site is withheld if you skip this form, and you can withdraw at any time by asking us to delete your answers.
- What we do with it
- We use these answers in the pool behind the State of Geospatial Careers research and to decide which evidence gaps to investigate next. Public findings are only ever shown as grouped figures. No group is published unless at least 5 people are in it, and that floor is enforced by the code that produces the figures. Your individual answers are never published, never sold, never passed to a recruiter or an advertiser, and never used to train a third party’s model.
- How long we keep it
- 24 months from the day you submit, then it is deleted. Sooner if you ask.
- How to get it deleted
- Email privacy@geospatial.careers and we will erase your answers. Gerardo Ezequiel Martin Carreno reads that address personally; there is no company or help desk in between. Grouped figures already published cannot be pulled apart again, because they no longer contain you individually.
- Your other rights
- You can ask for a copy of what is held about you, or ask for it to be corrected, at privacy@geospatial.careers. If you are unhappy with how this is handled you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
The longer version, covering the rest of the site, is in the privacy policy.
